Today, the CBO released its score on the Senate’s draft of the AHCA. If you want to read it yourself, you can here (41 pages).
The bill is depressing.
Sure, healthcare is a very emotional topic and no one has the make-everyone-happy solution to address the questions of coverage and costs. I get that. I don’t have the answers either. But, what I read today is not what I hoped for America.
The 41 page report from the CBO talks about lowering premiums (after 2020) and a $119B reduction in the deficit. Whoo hoo! That’s good news, right? Unfortunately, the devil is in the details and many Americans could be devastated if this law passed this House in this form.
If you’re sick, have a pre-existing condition, a senior, or poor – you’re not going to be happy with the bill.
If you’re wealthy and healthy – this bill is for you.
Some of my afternoon Tweet Rants…
Although politicians betraying the people didn’t start with Trump, this article is, sadly, on point. https://t.co/NTDP61kJ7u

I don’t find it very American for this bill to cut taxes for rich and hurt seniors, low income, or the less healthy. pic.twitter.com/3YD9c4KMbm

more on point 4 voters – premiums would go UP for first few yrs & adds stress to low income & seniors. Timing will likely hurt GOP midterms

incentive to be healthy? sucks if you have pre-existing condition? hmm. this could be painful for many. pic.twitter.com/506bGoJXW0

reduce subsidies / reduce Medicaid … give rich tax breaks??? I guess low income folks should be punished for their situation. pic.twitter.com/k4U1MOslOI
